“Helping the poor is a passport to paradise”. ..Pope Francis
On 26th December the community of prarthanalaya and clergy home, Mumbai hastened to share their joy of Christmas with the poor widows in Talassery, a mission place in the diocese of Vasai. Hearkening to the invitation of Pope Francis ‘’love not in words but in deeds, the sisters sacrificed the Christmas gift Rs. 300 to provide meal and provision to the poor. There were about 60 widows gathered for this outreach programme. The programme began with a procession carrying Baby Jesus followed by a short prayer service by Fr.Jacob. Then there was carol singing, games, prize distribution and above all dancing with the widows to the tribal songs made all feel at home. Thereafter a simple yet delicious meal prepared by the sisters was served and everyone enjoyed the meal. The fellowship meal shared with the poor widows under the banyan tree was the greatest banquet ever and will be a memorable one. After which a gift package containing GST grain, sugar, and tea powder was distributed to the poor women. The visit filled them with joy unspeakable and made everyone feel one in Jesus Christ. All returned home with great satisfaction and happiness.
At the end of the day all realised that , the real joy lies not in receiving but in giving. It was inspiring to see the women though in poverty and hard conditions had infectious smiles on their faces. It was an honour and an enriching experience to serve Jesus who identifies himself with the poor. It was a remarkable day for all.
