A Day Out with Special Children & Prisoners

“The truest measure of any society can be found in

how it treats its most vulnerable members.” – Mahatma Gandhi.

The Bangalore CRI, Richmond Town Zone, organized a special day out for children with special needs. Due to the challenges of ensuring their care and safety, the Sophia Special School had not been able to take these children on a picnic for over a decade. However, with the support and initiative of CRI members, a much-needed outing was arranged.

A total of 90 children from five different classes, accompanied by several school staff members and 15 CRI volunteers, set out for a memorable day at the National Park in Bangalore. The children relished every moment, their faces beaming with pure joy. For those of us who accompanied them, witnessing their happiness was a deeply fulfilling experience.

Another fulfilling experience was spending time in the Open Prison, in Bangalore. The inmates in the Open Prison are those with good behaviour, who were shifted from Bengaluru Central Jail to the Open Prison, where they are engaged in various agricultural activities and reared animals. Interacting with them and listening to their stories opened our hearts a little more to the suffering of humanity.

Acts of kindness and outreach not only brighten the lives of others but also enriches our own. By extending a helping hand to those in need, we discover new perspectives and deepen our sense of purpose in our religious consecration.
